The Flow Lane With Emma Maidment

Ep 23 - A Relationship Based Approach To Parenting with Occupational Therapist Nikky Maidment

Emma Maidment Episode 23

In todays episode I’m joined by my younger singer Nikky Maidment.  She's an OT  (Occupational Therapy (Honours)) and has been an OT for 7 years. Prior to that she spend many years working in the disability sector.

Nikky specialises in paediatrics and works at Kids and Community which is based in three locations across the GC and northern NSW.

She works predominately in the early intervention space but also works with school ages kids and into their teens. Some of the families she works with have noticed that their child is demonstrating developmental delays and are wanting to learn more ways they can support them and others may have diagnosis’s such as autism, ADHD, an intellectual impairment or any range of neurological condition.

The work she does includes a mix of individual or group therapy with the kids alongside parent coaching.

In this must listen to episode for all parents we chat about:

  • Using the knowledge of attachment theory to build a healthy relationship with your child
  • How the language we use impacts our children
  • Regulation and dis-regulation and how to best manage the latter.
  • Forming secure attachments
  • The importance of play
  • And so much more!

This is a MUST listen for all parents.

Jump on over to IG and tell me what you thought of this weeks episode. I know I personally got SO much out of it.
